Spotlight: 5 Questions With Photographer Leo Mayorquin

5 questions we asked and he answered:

 
1. How did you develop a passion for cars and/or motorsports?
My earliest memories are of being obsessed with cars. I recall hanging out with our neighbor, who was a home mechanic when I was 5, and learning what I could from him. Then we got cable, and I watched Speedvision religious for motorsport content. Then, I got a Motor Trend subscription at age 10. It was game over for me. I read them obsessively and biked to the library for all the car books.  

2. What advice do you have for people who want to break into the motorsports and auto industry?
Be present. Show up. Go to everything you can. Educate yourself too. Learn all that you can about cars. People will respect you more when they realize you’re knowledgeable AND passionate.

3. If you could drive any car, what would it be and why?
It would be a MK1 Ford GT40 because I was so obsessed with them as a kid and the history behind them. I have had access to a few original GT40s, but unfortunately, I did not fit. So, I would have to find one I fit in.

4. If you could attend any car/motorsports event in the world, which would you choose? Why?
Goodwood Reunion, there’s just nothing like seeing and feeling historic masterpieces going at it on a race track.

5. What’s the most exciting car event/race you’ve ever attended?
It was probably the Velocity Invitational. It’s like an American version of Goodwood Revival. You not only get to get up close and personal with 250 GTOs, Daytona Coupes, etc. You also get to see Zack Brown and crew take out legendary F1 cars and run them!
